Main Research Lines / Participation in SusPlast:

  • The group leads different realistic digestive models, in particular the CIAL Dynamic Gastrointestinal Simulator (simgi®) platform for the research on the degradation of microplastics and the potential formation of nanoplastics in the human gastrointestinal tract
  • For example, simulation of gastric and intestinal digestion under physiological conditions that allows monitoring the changes that occur after ingesting polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and estimating the possible health risks associated with its passage through the digestive system through its impact in the human salivary and colonic microbiota
